Bellingham, Wash. — The Whatcom County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help identifying a bicyclist who may have information about an incident that left another bicyclist dead near Lake Samish earlier this month.
According to WCSO, deputies responded at approximately 1:40 p.m. on July 11 to North Lake Samish Drive and Prescott Lane after a report of an injured and unconscious bicyclist alongside the road. Fire and EMS were already on scene. The victim was transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center. CSI and Traffic Unit deputies responded to investigate the scene.

Security footage from local businesses shows a bicyclist traveling in the same direction a few seconds ahead of the victim. Investigators want to locate that person to determine whether they have additional information. They are not identified as a suspect.

If you recognize the bicyclist or have any information, call the WCSO tip line at 360-778-6663 and reference case #26A24488.
The Sheriff's Office has posted the security footage on YouTube and its full statement on Facebook.
The Sheriff's Office has not publicly identified the victim. The date, time, and location match an incident that the family of Cole Hilton, a longtime figure at Whatcom Gutter & Construction, has publicly connected to his death.
